ACTIVITIES

• The QEC has initiated the implementation of the HEC Self Assessment Procedure in fifteen (15) engineering departments of the university.  The HEC Self Assessment Procedure was launched in March 2007 by the formation of program teams at the department level at the main and satellite campuses of the university.  All program teams are currently operative and have initiated gathering data and information from the students, faculty, alumni and employers by utilizing the HEC standardized proformae.  The input received through the assessment proformae will be used by the program teams to develop a Self Assessment Report (SAR) which, in turn, will help provide feedback to the management for the improvement of student learning.
   

• Just after its establishment in February 2007, the QEC focused on gathering the information and data about the facilities, finances, research, students, and faculty of each department and incorporated the collected information in the HEC ranking proformae as per HEC guidelines.  The emphasis was on furnishing all required information and data fully and appropriately to meet the HEC requirements.
   

• For awareness and improvement, the Quality Enhancement Cell has prepared the following reports:

   

  1.  “The Comparison of the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology Ranking Status with Engineering Institutes such as PIEAS, NUST, GIKI, UET Lahore, and UET Taxila.”

   

  2.  “Suggestions for Improving of Research Publications of NWFP University of Engineering and Technology in the ISI Indexed Journals.”
      

  The purpose of preparing the reports was to encourage the faculty and research scholars to publish their research articles in the ISI indexed journals of impact factors to have a recognition of their contribution at both national and international levels and help improve the ranking of the university.  The QEC has obtained from HEC a list of ISI indexed journals with impact factors which was used by the country’s prominent engineering institutes for their publications in year 2006.   This list has been  distributed amongst all Heads of Departments and Coordinators of satellite campuses.
   

• The QEC attended the following seminars / workshops organized by the Higher Education Commission: (a) 7th Meeting of Quality Enhancement Cells held on March 17-18, 2007 at Karachi, (b) 8th Meeting of Quality Enhancement Cells held on June 26-27, 2007 at Islamabad, and (c) 9th Meeting of Quality Enhancement Cells held on October 31 – November 1, 2007 at Lahore.  The QEC made presentations of its activities, as per HEC given agenda, in the 8th and 9th meetings of the Quality Enhancement Cells.
   

• The QEC made a presentation about its performance and budget utilization to the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of the HEC.  The QAA visiting team that was comprised of Program Coordinator, Ms.  Fakiha Zafar, and Training Coordinator, Ms.  Tahreem Aslam, visited the NWFP-University of Engineering and Technology on October 9, 2007 to assess the functioning of the Quality Enhancement Cell.   The HEC visiting team met with the Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Engineering, and discussed matters related to QEC.
